BA in English, Philosophy, and Religions, University of Redlands (Redlands, California).


Professional Background:

I have taught Creative Writing, Literature, and Composition at various colleges in California and New York, including three CUNY campuses (and 12 years of teaching beginning and advanced fiction writing at Hunter College/CUNY)).  I have been a member of the full time faculty in the English Department at Nassau Community College since September 2001.  Prior to coming to NCC, I had also worked as an editor of both commercial and literary publications, including the American Book Review.

Publications and Writing Awards:

I have published poetry and fiction in various literary magazines, including The Cimarron Review, New Letters, Eclipse, Main Channel Voices and Gallimaufry, and three of my poems appear in the anthology Songs of Seasoned Women (2007).  My textbook Access Literature: An Introduction to Fiction, Poetry, and Drama (coauthored with David Winn) was published by Wadsworth in 2006.  I have also published numerous book reviews of contemporary fiction and poetry.  I received the Bridge Fund Fellowship for poetry and fiction (2004) and The Nassau Review Poetry Award (2002).
